Arthur's Seat
Walked up from the Meadowbank entrance to holyrood park and into the back end of Arthur's Seat, didn't make it all the way up but need to start ou on a steep slope as there is between 2 and 3 ft of powder and plenty of flat bits to get stuck on! Would have had a better time if the weather hadnt closed in.
:: Weather Conditions
Cloudy fairly good visibility, snow and hail came in towards the end.
:: Snow Conditions and Distrubtion
Deep powder 2-3ft in places, some thinner patches on the exposed slopes and where a lot of sledging had been done, but plenty of untracked pow available (watch out for the flat bits!)

Not really backcountry I suppose but managed to get out on a short ski up Tarvit Hill in Cupar (5 minutes walk to the start from the house!). Skinned up from Cupar Golf Course club house, over the golf course and over various fields. Returned with a few good turns by a similar route. Bit of fun when the bigger hills appeared storm bound with blocked roads.
:: Weather Conditions
Got a 2 to 3 hour break in the weather with a few breaks in the cloud.
:: Snow Conditions and Distrubtion
3 inches of fresh snow enough to get some turns in without breaking though,

Drumochter Hills. A' Mharconaich (975m). Ascended NE ridge from Balsporan Cottages. We met 3 members of the Edinburgh Ski Touring Club at the top. From summit descended slopes of NW and then northerly aspects and traversed out along the Allt Coire Fhair.
:: Weather Conditions
Dry, no wind, overcast but cloud rising above summit with a little sun breaking through occasionally.
:: Snow Conditions and Distrubtion
Reasonable snow cover, skis in/off at railway. Harder wind blown snow higher up, descended though some good spring slow with good turns. Softer, slushier snow on ski out and lower elevations. Some heather hopping on the way out.

started at hillend carpark before the sun came up. skinned up to caerketton hill and then along the ridge to the summit of allermuir hill. skied south from there on the best snow of the day (hardpacked smooth fresh. soft on top) down to the bern and then headed south east slmost until the confluence and then headed north up to the ridge and back down towards the golf course. then in the car and made it to my 10am lecture! whole trip took about 2hours 15
:: Weather Conditions
bluebird. cold. hardly a breath of wind
:: Snow Conditions and Distrubtion
exellent even where heather was poking through. best snow i experienced was on south and east facing slopes. but pretty much everywhere was skiable. snow is wind packed enough rocks weren't a worry. and soft enough to put in really nice turns. felt similar to a groomed piste. strongly recomend a wee trip before work/uni/school!
