Dinnet - Glen Tanar - Water of Allachy - Firmounth Road - Aboyne. Nordic gear.
:: Weather Conditions
OK, much better than forecast. Sunny in afternoon
:: Snow Conditions and Distrubtion
Freezing all levels, even in sun. But the sun did cause a few south-facing trees to drop a very small part of their massive snow burden. Snow depth 30cm or more (unconsolidated). A sad lack of other people's ski tracks to follow, but I'm back at work tomorrow so will get a rest from breaking trail...

My house - Old Craig - Newmacher Station - Old Craig - My house. More local xc on the Formartine and Buchan rail line. Started at my front door, headed over the B999 into the fields and then back onto the road at Old Craig. This hadn't been ploughed so was a great ski. Stuck to the road to the railway and then skied to Newmacher on the railway. Retraced my route but skipped off the road on the return as it had been ploughed and was sheet ice.

Sunshine and snow showers
:: Snow Conditions and Distrubtion
Good, had possibly rained overnight as it was crusty under about 2" of fresh. Previous days tracks basically gone. Nice soft snow, but hard going as was having to break trail.

Morven. Parked at "Grodie" near Logie Coldstone. Straight up from there past ruins, and onto East ridge of Morven. return skiing SE face of Morven, and via Bad na Beinne to start
:: Weather Conditions
heavy snow and wind on ascent. cleared up as i skied down so good viz once below750-800m contour. wind dropped and snow stopped
freezing level below 200m
:: Snow Conditions and Distrubtion
some slab on exposed aspects, but lovely DEEP powder on SE descent route for fantastic turns, a bit too deep at times.

Cambus O'May to Culblean hill and back, using Alpine kit.
:: Weather Conditions
Good, intermittent glimpses of sun. Freezing at all levels except in sunshine.
:: Snow Conditions and Distrubtion
OK on forest track. Once on the hill it was again deep unconsolidated powder over heather, with a variable breakable crust. Very hard work, both uphill and downhill. The intended route went on to Morven, but had to be abandoned due to shortage of daylight.

Tillyfoury to Monymusk via Cairn William and Paradise Wood, using Nordic kit.
:: Weather Conditions
OK, thawing slightly at lower levels. Sudden though temporary deterioration near sunset, hence didn't quite make summit of Cairn William.
:: Snow Conditions and Distrubtion
Generally good going on the forest roads, thanks to nicely compacted tracks left by FC landrovers. On the high ridge, deep unconsolidated powder over deep heather, with a variable breakable crust to make life more miserable. Not much snow on the tarmac, but enough on the verges to reach Monymusk Square without taking skis off.
