Meall Corranaich circuit starting/finishing at dam on Lochan na Lairige

Superb - clear, sunny and no wind. FL est. 400m

Nice spring snow with some windblown patches and hard neve depending on slope aspect. Full cover across the mountain except for lower south facing slopes which were more patchy but still skiable.

Meall Glas from Glen Lochay. This tour accesses the north facing descent from Meall Glas into Allt Coire Cheathaich that benefits from windblown snow deposited in westerly winds while being on slopes below 30 degrees. The tour has good ambience. The choosing of where to cross the River Lochay dictates the route. Note the image of the route is a hand drawn route not a GPS track.
For the record there is a bridge opposite the hill road to Beinn Heasgarnich at NN 467364. The bridge marked at 453356 is no longer. The ford to Lubchurran, which I have seen frozen in temperature of -15, was free flowing and icy at over knee depth this weekend with temps this week in -5 to -10 range. The bridge at Badour (432349) is useable although there is a hole in it.
The seven miles from Killin to the requested parking area 1km short of Kenknock farm had been driven by 4x4s however had not been ploughed recently. This road is always going to be snowy when the floor of the valley can be skied. On the way up we pulled a car back onto the road that had gone off.
We used the bridge at Badour which committed us to the west side of the Allt Coire Cheathaich on the way up. There is a steep lip before breaking out onto the upper mountain. We had stunning views from the NW ridge and summit. The north facing snow was superb and our line was around 26 degrees. We skied to 500m in the vicinity of the East most burn to get below the rock band shown on 1: 25 map, then taking an easy descending traverse to Lubchurran. From there we crossed numerous fences and gates before working our way awkwardly along the fence line in the trees to the bridge at 467364. If using this as the ascent route keeping skins dry in the burns would be a priority. A stunning day of 17km and 800m of ascent.

A day reminiscent of 12 Jan 2008 (both Saturdays) when the snow cover and weather were so good everyone was out. Minus 5, clear skies, no wind apart from summit area.
