Not so much a tour as a pre-season shakedown - remember which way round the skis go and all that.
From ski carpark pretty much up the line of the funicular and then on up to the top of Cairngorm following the post way marks. There is a good reason I've not done it that way before and will not be following them again - I knew it in the back of my head but it truely is a boulder field! Down via Marquis Well. This slight bowl had much better snow cover and a nice ski off. On down through the mellee of pisties who had now arrived for Boxing Day fun.
:: Weather Conditions
Great day and got better, clear top and some sun!
:: Snow Conditions and Distrubtion
SW half of the mountain scoured, some of the huge amount of snow that must have fallen was to be found where it was relatively sheltered to the NE. Generlly a hard base with areas of soft where deposited.
Drove South on Sat 28th and Drumochter hills looked by far the best with good cover to near road level.

From the top of the Fiaciall Ridge poma I headed over linking the best patches to Lurchers Gully. Skins on and up to the ledge overlooking the Lairig Ghru. Skied back down the gully cutting over to the path leading to the ski centre. Apart from a very short carry I could get right back on skis. Finished off with 4 runs on the FR poma which by then was empty.
:: Weather Conditions
Sunny, moderate wind blowing down the gully that picked up as I was out. Below freezing
:: Snow Conditions and Distrubtion
The snow that had melted at these levels yesterday had frozen but the surface was grippy. Some stashes of wind blown powder in the gully.

Thought I should do a wee report so folk know there is enough snow on the 'Gorms for touring*. Mine was a short trip up Coire Cas avoiding the pistes to Cairngorm summit, then down the back to enjoy Coire Raibairt before returning over & down Coire Cas.
*sorry to say by Monday 11th the webcam shows most of the snow has been stripped away by the mild winds.
:: Weather Conditions
Beautiful and sunny with very light NW-ish winds in morning. Started to cloud over in afternoon.
:: Snow Conditions and Distrubtion
Amazing for November! .... only had to walk 10 or so minutes from car park before reaching thin snow cover - which was surprisingly firm and good skinning from thaw-freeze. Further up, if you picked where the snow had gathered and avoided the main boulder-fields, there was enough cover for some really good skiing - mix of fresh stuff, light wind-pack, sastrugi and some crusted. Not well consolidated up high so had to watch out for lurking rocks - major gouge in ski sole from head of Coire Cas - and had pick way carefully on lower slopes.
