CairnGorm Mountain - Thursday 18th January These pics were taken in the vicinity of the Ptarmigan Centre, as people headed for cover as 70mph winds blast the Ptarmigan Bowl, thus no photos of the bowl itself, sorry! Very little snow left on the mountain at present, but all hope is not lost, see picture of Coire Cas taken on the 19th of January last season, note lack of snow, and look how last season turned out!
Weekend Outlook
It was snowing above the middle station on Friday afternoon, but it is very stormy on the mountain with winds gusting to 70mph, to get much benifit from the snow we could do with the winds dropping a bit, however the gullies should catch some snow.
There is very little snow left on CairnGorm and the only sport that is available is up in the Ptarmigan Bowl, the Ptarmigan Run is complete, but narrow, and is thin and rocky in places. There is a reasonable sized kicker in the middle of the bowl, and another jump was built today down closer to the Tow. Snow was hardpacked on Friday with a light dusting of fresh snow. Hopefully snowfall overnight will take the edge out of the hard base, but it will all depend on how much snow if any falls and windspeed.
The Forecast for Saturday and Sunday is for high winds, in the region of 60-80mph. Thus it would be advisable to contact CairnGorm in the morning for an update. Phone report 01479 861261 should be updated shortly after 7.30am.
